Wearing my bracelet Kelly and Dan gave me. Hoping it'll help heal me up from this stupid head cold.
We started the day off right by letting MEEE drive the curvy roads! blaring some of MY music.
Our plan was to drive to the top of Kings Canyon and drive the scenic passage from one mountain to another. A highly rated drive. But we reached the top to find out the bypass was closed due to snowy conditions. So we pulled over to revamp when we came across this beautiful sight looking over the valley.
Another couple also pulled over snapping pictures told us about a gorgeous lake down the road. So we drove down the valley to find a man made lake among a Christian camp.
It was very picturesque and there were red and green chairs along the lake side for people to enjoy the scenery.
A man told us about this lake and how it was man- made to help transport logs 80 miles down the mountain to the city of Fresno, as well as a place for the loggers and their families to enjoy.
In the summer this place is probably packed. I was comfortable in pants and a sweater.
There were teenagers around and all sitting together like they were in a camp. Reminded us of camp Kadesh!
Next stops were short hikes. One being the third largest tree in the world ;)..
so in the previous blog I talked about sequoia trees needing fire to reproduce and protect themselves. Well the down side is that after thousands of years, the fire erodes the roots and the tree can fall over with no warning. Check out the roots..
A general and his brother built this little home out of sequoias back in the day. They studied the trees and were so amazed that they cut one down to send it into a museum in LA. It took 2 men NINE days to cut down one tree! They then lived with their wives and children in this home to continue to study the trees and finally create a law to protect the sacred trees from loggers wanting to cut them down.
So the stump trail was nice but it opened up to a field and I was like, meh, lets turn around. Apparently I turned us around before we reached the amazing stump! lol...
The best pictures are in our mind, but the valleys and mountains were really grande!
We called it a day and drove down the mountain, Ashton listening to the signs to save the vehicles brakes by driving in a low gear. Those that didn't gear down were easily 'smelled' the whole way down.
Another safe and amazing day in the national park.
