Passing ranches, veggie crops and farming communities, we finally made it to Pismo!
Needing to stretch our legs before finding our motel we went straight to the beach, called Pismo Beach National Dunes.
Well, we were awestruck for a while until I heard myself say "Where are we?" followed by Ashton "What is this?"
We had parked the vehicle and walked down a regular street onto this sand highway!! Trucks to cars to campers were driving on the sand highway. Families were sitting by their parked campers having picnics and swimming, fishing, and driving along the beach for a fee of $5
Curious about all the ATV sightings we soon realized that the sand highway leads to a huge sand dune area where ATVs and dune buggies can rip around.
Hearing that this is one of the only place in America that you can do this, Ashton began researching the best rental company to rent an ATV from.
Our tummies were empty so we decided to come back to the dunes another day and headed off to a beach town dinner to chow down massive burgers from a diner.
As the day continued I began developing a head cold , feeling sic we decided to taker easy by taking in a movie at the near by theatre. Fate and the Furious! one of Ashton's favourite movies!! .. i really liked it too.
A soak in the motels hot tub and we called it a day.
The next day we woke up to a misty, cloudy, cold, wet day! and to top it off my head cold became nasty.
So we went to the nearby town called San Louis Obipus. AKA SLO!
And checked out ABC (already been chewed) bubble gum alley!!?? pretty random. but obviously we had to buy overpriced bubble gum to chew and add to the wall!
We grabbed a warm soup and checked out the historic town, stopping in at the town museum to learn about how the Japanese were outkasted after pearl harbour happened.
The city was decorated with.. cows... some sort of art show displaying.. cows!...
moooo
After strolling around SLO we went on a mini roadtrip, an hour up the coast stopping at sights and towns along the way.
I can't believe the fog! literally couldn't see the ocean when we were driving beside it!...
It cleared up a bit for us to view Morro Rock- a 581 foot volcanic rock shooting up from the ocean bed.
A beach town along the way.
and that's all the energy I could muster up for the day. Ashton took me back to the motel to sleep while he watched movies.
I don't get sick often, and I especially hate being sic on a vacation, but Ashton reminded me that the weather really was gross everywhere in California on this day. (He had looked at the weather elsewhere and it was rainy and cold everywhere.) So I didn't feel as guilty resting up.
And the next day is today..
This morning we rented ATVS for a couple hours of fun in the dunes.
Ashton sure ripped around the HUGE dunes. my Machine shut down for a bit and it literally took 45 mintues for Ashton to find someone to borrow their phone to call for a back up machine and for the company to drive a new machine out to me. I didn't mind- I looked around and was literally the only thing in the massive sand dunes. I couldn't hear or see anyone or anything. Wierd
Im not going to lie, this was not my favorite experience, granted I'm not an avid quader.. and I was terrified of the sand drops and the roughness of the quad. Then it got cloudy and misty again and we were soon Drenched and somehow had gotten really far into the dunes lol...
I tried to stay chipper as I watched fearless Ashton do doughnuts and up and down the dunes.
It was a once in a life time kinda experience. (literally for me ;0)
After warming up in our hot tub and drinking warm coffee, we ventured back down to the beach. The sun came out again and we had a really nice afternoon on the beach! a delicious lunch in a jamaican like hut. We spent the evening in the local library.
I'm feeling better and the forecast is for sun and heat the next week! yaaaayyy!!!
zunti's signing offffff
