Sequoia Hike (Day 3)

Another blue skied, sunny day. We are very fortunate to have sunny days, as the overcast moments are chilly. But it is only April right! :D

Being a Friday, traffic doubled overnight in the national park, which still is very minimal, however we defiantly noticed more campervans and families coming from LA to enjoy the quiet park for the weekend.

Ashton researched a waterfall called the Tokopah falls. so we drove all the way up the mountain to the trail head through a campsite. (the campsite was still closed from winter season)

He had read that the trail was moderate and you couldn't get lost if you followed the creek right up to the tiered water fall.

Not a cloud in sight we ventured off... one of the my favourite hikes ever!.. We asked a young guy in the shop near the trail head about the hike, and he said 'ya there's a bit of snow'.....understatement! it was snow the entire trail! ha ha.. but it was so warm. Ashton was in shorts and a tee and I was comfortable in my layers on and off...

The trail was incredible. Hardly saw anyone, it was quiet except for the sound of the stream beside us. SO warm and probably rated an 'easy' trail.. over trees, and bridges and occasionally falling through the snow! We often got off the trail and would createe our own trail, but it was fine  as long as no bears showed up we couldn't really get into trouble.

We passed a couple from the UK, she was in short shorts and a tank top. she did laugh when she said they are from the UK and loving the weather here hence the beach wear on the hike!..

The route to the falls took us an hour and a half at a leisurely pace. Then we stopped for lunch at the falls.
below are tons of pics, couldn't pick just one. The Falls look little in the picture, but they were quite large. and well worth the hike.

After the 3 hour round trip hike, we stopped at the campground store for a treat. I noticed baby sequoia trees for sale in the store. ......We bought our very OWN SEQUOIA tree!!!

Like so pumped!! This baby is between 1-3 years old already. Apparently it will do just fine in our climate, and we'll get to see if grow and reach potential in 2-3 Thousand years!! ha ha.. I guess we'll watch from heaven!

We named him 'Sequoia Jr' appropriately ;)

Still glowing with happiness from our hike and new tree, we returned to our motel early to enjoy the grounds and watch the sunset
